Here are some of the things you need to know if you are planning for a visit to Death Valley National Park:



1.         You have probably heard this is one of the hottest places in the world. 134 degrees Fahrenheit has been recorded here, even though it can be the hottest place, there can be snow up on the mountains right next to it. It is the lowest place on earth, it is home to the Badwater basin right here 282 feet below sea level.



2.         When to go to Death Valley? –November through March that’s when you want to go to Death Valley. Why not in the summer because it's 134 degrees in the summer, so the high season in Death Valley is actually the low season in most places.



3.         Getting there-The Las Vegas International Airport is one of the closest airports to get to Death Valley. It takes about two and half hours driving and the last major town you will hit in your way is the town of Beatty in Nevada. If you are coming from Las Vegas, it is about four and a half hours from Los Angeles.



4.         Paper map is the key to getting around Death Valley because there is nearly zero cell phone service here.

5.         There's a lot more to do here just than hiking, you can do some of the best nature viewing here, sunset and sunrise viewing. One of the best places to watch the sunset here is Zabriskie point.
